Kwentong Barbero
In the depth of the night in a vast urban jungle, a boy runs frantically away from a herd of inexplicable beings. The boy cries for help but no one dares to extend a helping hand. As the gap between the boy and the creatures closes, a light coming from a barbershop becomes his only refuge. With nowhere else to go, he enters the barbershop and asks an old barber for help. The barber then assures the boy that the entities he’s running away from are just a fragment of his imagination. Oblivious to the boy, the mysterious barber sits the boy down for one and final haircut.
Sigaw, Hija
A Short Film About The Sexual Harassment
Against Women in Manila
I serve as the project manager for Kapit Bisig Productions (KBP), our group's production entity. Additionally, I hold the role of director for "Sigaw, Hija." This project has spanned nearly a year, covering three semesters. The production phase proceeded smoothly for a week, followed by a post-production period lasting approximately two to three weeks. Subsequently, there were ongoing revisions that needed attention.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The movie explores the issue of sexual harassment against women in Manila, focusing on a digital initiative led by the Young Women’s Christian Association - FEU Chapter. The film sheds light on Republic Act No. 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law), while the campaign utilizes various social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube. Through engaging and educational content, the campaign aims to increase awareness about sexual harassment against women, specifically concerning this law. The decision to address this sensitive topic stems from the fact that sexual harassment against women remains a persistent problem, often left unreported due to fear and confusion surrounding these incidents. Both television and online platforms frequently depict such cases, commonly occurring in public spaces or as forms of revenge, including revenge porn. The results of this study have played a crucial role in comprehending and dealing with the ongoing problem of sexual harassment faced by women in Manila. Through the creation of a powerful short film and a digital campaign, the Young Women’s Christian Association - FEU Chapter aims to raise awareness, foster empathy, and empower individuals, emphasizing the significance of Republic Act No. 11313. Ultimately, this research endeavors to bring about positive change by preventing sexual harassment, providing support, and catalyzing societal transformation.
